Range Plan and Buy Strategy
Demonstrate your buying and merchandising thinking by creating a seasonal range plan that balances product mix, price architecture and commercial logic.
Full task instructions
Imagine you are the buyer for a mid-size fashion retailer launching a new season. Create a range plan for one product category (e.g. knitwear, denim, or accessories). Define 6-8 products in the range with price points, a brief description, and your reasoning for each. Show how the range hits different price tiers (entry, core, premium) and explain your buy quantities based on a target customer and expected demand.
Deliverable
A range plan spreadsheet or table (Excel, Google Sheets or PDF) with product names, descriptions, price points, tier classification, buy quantities, and a short rationale paragraph.
Constraints
Use fictional product names and descriptions. Do not copy an existing retailer range. Keep numbers realistic for a mid-size independent fashion business.
