MPB-02Music Publishing

Catalogue Development Strategy

Demonstrate your strategic thinking by building a plan to grow and market a music publishing catalogue for an emerging songwriter or producer.

Spend 4-5 hours on this brief.

Full task instructions

Imagine you represent an emerging songwriter or producer with a small catalogue of original works. Create a catalogue development strategy covering: the types of songs or compositions you would prioritise signing or creating, how you would organise and metadata the catalogue, the revenue streams you would target (sync, mechanical, performance), and a 6-month plan to increase the catalogue's visibility and earnings. Include how you would use DSPs, social platforms and industry relationships.

Deliverable

A 2-3 page strategy document (PDF or slide deck) including catalogue priorities, metadata and organisation approach, target revenue streams, 6-month growth plan, and platform/relationship strategy.

Constraints

Use a fictional songwriter or producer name. Do not copy an existing publisher strategy. Keep the plan realistic for an independent or emerging catalogue with limited budget.
